Empowering Through Consent Education

Mindful Consent Infographic

As the Consent Consultant and creator of the Mindful Consent model, I strongly believe in the transformative power of knowledge. I am also deeply passionate about people having a better understanding of their experience of consent.

I inadvertently created the foundations of the Mindful Consent model when working on defining consent for a speaking engagement. It feels almost serendipitous that I have been able to shape it into a model I can deliver as consent education.

With the Mindful Consent model in hand, it is my mission is to create a safer, more respectful world through consent education. With engaging workshops, presentations, my online consent course and one-on-one consults, I hope to empower individuals and communities to make better-informed consent decisions rooted in dignity, respect, integrity and compassion.

My approach is holistic, ensuring that consent is understood not only as a concept but as an integrated part of human interactions.

Positioning statement

I identify as queer, my pronouns are she, her, hers. I am a cisgender woman, with ableist and neurotypical privileges. I have white-passing privilege and my cultural context is middle-class Australian.

My background

I have been working with people and consent for over 23 years, both in Australia and the US.

I am an undergraduate student of psychology and counselling.

I am a 2018 graduate of Dr Betty Martin’s Wheel of Consent “Like a Pro” training, through her School of Consent.

The model, process and proposed theory

I finished creating Mindful Consent in Sept 2021. In Feb 2022, this website became the public-facing entity showcasing the model, process and proposed theory. In future I hope to be able to undertake research into the intersection between the biological basis of consent and human Safety and Survival responses.

Gratitude

I’d like to thank those who have assisted me to create Mindful Consent, most particularly the survivors whose contribution was crucial to validating my work.

I hope Mindful Consent honours their experiences and provides support on their journeys towards healing.

Foremost, I would like to thank:

My Commitment to the Community

Community Engagement and Education

I seek to actively engage with local communities, to offer workshops and educational programs tailored to various age groups. My Mindful Consent educational programs are designed to promote understanding, communication, and positive interactions, empowering individuals to make informed choices.

Collaborations with Non-profits

My collaborations with non-profit organizations enable me to extend the reach of my consent education programs. By joining forces with organizations that share my values and goals, I am able to provide resources and support to communities that may not otherwise have access to such education.

Continuous Improvement and Feedback

I believe in evolving with the needs of the community. As such, I actively seek feedback and insights from community members, participants, and partners. This feedback guides my continuous improvement efforts, ensuring my educational assets remain relevant, impactful, and responsive to the community’s needs.

Schools and Academic Institutions

Educating the youth is a priority for me. I seek to partner with schools and academic institutions to integrate consent education into curriculums. Through interactive sessions, role-playing, and discussions, I hope students gain the knowledge and tools necessary for healthy relationships and personal boundaries.

Events and Public Speaking as The Consent Consultant

I am available for public speaking engagements at community events, conferences, and seminars. These opportunities allow me to raise awareness about the importance of consent education and to share insights and strategies for cultivating a culture of respect.

  • I believe the responsibility of this should be up to the parents or guardian of the young person, in their socio-cultural context. As a woman who was denied information about sex, reproduction, and biology up until my mid teens - well after I started menstruation - I espouse that children should be brought up in a non-shaming, non-guilting environment of disclosure around bodies and intimacy.

  • Due tot he fact I am not an RTO, there is not nationally recognized certificate of attainment.
